Moreland believes Barking’s poor display in win at Maldon is a positive

Andrew Moreland believes Barking’s poor performance in a 27-12 win at Maldon in London Three Essex shows how far the club have come.
The Gale Street club collected a second league win in a row with brothers Tommy and Craig Stimson both scoring a brace of tries, while Sean Triana also dotted down.
Despite securing a first away win of the season, director of rugby Moreland was far from happy with the level of performance.
But rather than be concerned, Moreland in fact feels that is a positive sign for Barking going forward.
“We all agreed after the game that it was the worst we had played this season, which shows have far we’ve come as a club,” he said.
“The players showed great leadership on Saturday and there was great game management too.
“We’re evolving as a squad with every game and being able to pick a consistent team is helping with that.”
There were a host of debuts for Barking in the win over Maldon, including one for recent addition Anthony Holt.
Teenagers Lewis Saffell and Keenan Browne, who had both progressed through the club’s youth system, also played the full 80 minutes for the Gale Street side.
And Moreland was delighted Barking were not only able to field some of their brightest talents, but that those youngsters helped contribute to a success.
“It was a special day for the club to be able to get back-to-back wins with some of our own academy players in the side.
“It’s certainly a big lift to the club and it helps us take a step closer to the ‘one club’ ethos that we want.
“Both Lewis and Keenan performed well and I’m excited to see how they develop not just with the senior team, but with the academy side too.”The victory over Maldon allowed Barking to collect consecutive wins for the first time since February 2016, which again added to Moreland’s delight.
He said: “Being able to name a consistent XV is really helping us. We want the players to be mates off the pitch and they’re all playing for each other now. It’s huge for us to get back-to-back wins and we have momentum now.”
