for Barking against Millwall

Andrew Moreland believes Barking demonstrated exactly what they are capable of in London Three Essex with their 55-5 demolition of Millwall.
The Gale Street club eased to an emphatic home success under the Friday night lights to snap a run of two straight defeats in the league.
And director of rugby Moreland was thrilled with the performance Barking were able to deliver as they got the better of Millwall.
“Myself and (attack coach) Craig Ratford said that this type of performance had been coming and being able to name a settled side in recent weeks has helped,” he said.
“Both our attack and defence against Millwall was superb. Our defence provided the platform for the attack to play with freedom, knowing the ball would be quickly won back.”
It was a welcome return to winning ways for Barking, who collected just a third league win of the term.
And Moreland believes the manner of the success over Millwall will have provided the Gale Street club with a big confidence boost.
“There wasn’t one sad face in the dressing room after the game on Friday and the win was great for morale,” he added.
“It was the biggest win for the club in a number of years. We had been threatening to put in a performance like this and thankfully it all came together.”
Skipper Sam John scored a hat-trick of tries for Barking in the success, which Moreland believes was a just reward for the captain’s efforts on and off the pitch.
“Sam has led by example and he has thrown himself into everything asked of him at the club,” he added.
“Sam deserved his hat-trick on Friday and there were so many others that performed so well which made naming our man of the match a bit of a dilemma.”
Playing under Friday night lights seemed to boost Barking on the pitch, but Moreland also confirmed the match was a success off of it.
“The boys really loved playing on a Friday and there was a larger crowd, which added to the occasion,” he said.
Barking are next in action on November 17 when they visit Maldon in the league.
